January 1st, Sunny

Today is New Year's Day. I got up early and helped my parents clean the house. We put up red paper cuttings on the windows and a fresh couplet on the door. In the afternoon, my grandparents came over for dinner. My mother cooked dumplings, fish and a big pot of soup. We all sat around the table and talked about our wishes for the new year. My grandfather said he hoped everyone would stay healthy. I said I wanted to read more books and improve my English. After dinner, we watched the New Year gala on TV. I felt warm and happy. This is a simple but meaningful start to the year.

January 2nd, Cloudy

Today I visited my best friend Lily. She moved to a new apartment last month, so I took a bus to see her. Her room is small but cozy, with a bookshelf full of novels and a little plant on the desk. We made hot chocolate and talked for hours. She told me she joined the school choir and had a performance next week. I promised to go and watch. In the evening, we walked to a nearby park. The trees were bare, but the air was fresh. We took a few photos together and laughed a lot. On my way home, I thought about how good it is to keep old friendships alive even when life gets busy.

January 3rd, Windy

Today was a quiet day at home. The wind was strong outside, so I stayed in and organized my desk. I found an old notebook with some English words I wrote last year. Some of them I had forgotten, so I spent half an hour reviewing them. Then I made a small plan for the new year: read two English stories every week, write three sentences in my diary each day, and practice listening for ten minutes. In the afternoon, my little brother asked me to play chess. He won the first game, but I won the second. We laughed and shared an orange. Before bed, I stood by the window and watched the clouds move fast across the sky. I felt calm and ready for tomorrow.
